Boko Haram's Attempt To Bomb Kaduna Foiled

The bomb was detonated by the police.
The police in Kaduna on Monday detonated a high calibre Improvised Explosive Device, IED, wrapped in a polythene bag and dropped by a man on a motorbike at the busy Sultan Road/Sir Kashim Road junction in Kaduna North Local Government Area.
The Kaduna Police Public Relation Officer, Aminu Lawan, confirmed the incident.
“We got a distress call that a polythene bag containing a questionable object was dropped by a passing Okada man so we quickly ordered our anti-bomb squad team to the area. The area was immediately condoned off when it was discovered that the polythene bag contained high caliber IEDs. Our anti-bomb squad was able to successfully detonate the IEDs and the area was immediately brought under control.
As I speak to you now, the area is calm and people are already going about their normal activities. Meanwhile, an effort to apprehend the suspect is in top gear,” he said.
PREMIUM TIMES, on a visit to the scene, gathered that pandemonium broke out during the incident. Shops were hurriedly closed, while vehicles veered towards other routes. A traffic jam soon followed as several cars ran into each other.
A witness said efforts was made to apprehend the man who dropped the polythene bag but he had long gone before the IED was discovered.
“When we saw the suspicious-looking polythene bag, we tried to see if we could catch up with the okada man that dropped it but we could not. It was then that we called the police and it was discovered that it was an IED that was in the polythene bag,” he said.
As at the time of filing the report, normalcy had returned to the area and people were seen going about their normal business and shops had reopened.
