The nationwide ongoing
limited voter registration exercise embarked upon by the Electoral Commission
is progressing smoothly in the Ledzekoku Constituency of the Greater Accra
Region.
A tour of a number of registration centres
in the constituency by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday revealed that a
large majority of people being registered were mostly in the age bracket of 18
and 19.
At the Neighbourhood Registration Centre at
Teshie, Mr Daniel Mensah, officer in-charge, said the Centre recorded 34, 58,
and 70 new registrations on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
As at 1100 hours when GNA got there on
Thursday morning, 20 people had been registered.
Mr Mensah said the exercise was moving on
smoothly and attributed the lower figure recorded on day one to a printer
breakdown.
Mr Benedict Clottey, Registration Officer at
the East Akror Centre gave the newly registered figures for Monday, Tuesday and
Thursday as 21, 37 and 36 respectively.
As at 1130 hours when GNA got there the
Centre had registered 15 people.
He called for more public education through
the mass media on the relevance of the nationwide exercise.
Mr Daniel Mensah Colman, Registration Officer
of the Krobo One and Two Primary School Centre gave an account of the number of
people registered as 52, 48 and 46 for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
respectively.
When GNA arrived at 1217 hours at the
centre, 13 people had then been registered.
According to Mr Colman, the exercise had
been very smooth without any hindrances.
Mr Daniel Tetteh, a newly registered voter
said he was elated to have been registered, which would empower him to vote in
coming national elections.
