The FCT INEC has advised residents to participate in the forthcoming issuance of the Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) scheduled to hold between Aug. 15 and 17 in the territory.
Mr Okezie Nwankwo, Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, made the appeal on Wednesday in Abuja in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“Our people in the FCT need to know the correct date for both exercises. We don’t want people to get confused. We need to create this awareness to ensure the success of the exercise.
“The collection of the PVCs begins on Friday, Aug. 15 in the FCT and 11 other states simultaneously and ends on Aug. 17.
“The point of collection is at the same centre you registered and collected your Temporary Voter Card (TVC).
“After the 3-day period, collection will continue but at the local government headquarters for states and area councils for the FCT until 30 days before the elections,’’ Nwankwo said.
He explained that voters who wished to move their polling centre closer to their place of residence should apply to the Resident Electoral Commissioner through their electoral officers.
“Once you apply, your data will be moved to your place of choice and cancelled in the previous place of domicile.
“The TVC will be retrieved and the PVC will be issued to you,’’ he said.
Nwankwo urged voters to go to their collection centres with their TVCs to exchange for the PVCs.
He said that the PVCs would not be collected by proxy.
“You cannot collect for anyone, no matter how close they are to you. You cannot collect for your wife, husband or child.
“Your fingerprints will be needed and since fingerprints are unique to each individual, you cannot thumbprint for someone else,’’ he said.
The FCT INEC officer said that the CVR would be carried out at the ward level from Aug. 20 to Aug. 25. (NAN)
