Jonathan, Ekweremadu eulogise late Awaisu Kuta

“He prays that Almighty Allah will receive the late Senator’s soul and grant him peaceful repose in Paradise.”
President Goodluck Jonathan has extended his condolences to Governor Babangida Aliyu and the people of Niger State on the death, Thursday, of a senator, Awaisu Kuta.
Mr. Jonathan also commiserated with the Senate President, David Mark, other senators, the family of the deceased, and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over the death of the senator who represented the PDP and Niger East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
A statement by the president’s media aide, Reuben Abati, stated that the President mourns Mr. Kuta whose contributions to the legislative work of the Senate will be greatly missed.
“President Jonathan also believes that Senator Kuta’s significant contributions to the development of party politics and democratic institutions of governance in his home state and country will stand to his eternal credit and that he will be always remembered as a very committed and forthright lawmaker who did his best in the service of his community fatherland.
“He prays that Almighty Allah will receive the late Senator’s soul and grant him peaceful repose in Paradise,” Mr. Abati said.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has also expressed his grief over the death of the senator, who died on Thursday morning at 65 years.
Mr. Ekweremadu said Mr. Kuta’s death was an incalculable loss to the Senate and the nation.
He also described the late Mr. Kuta as a pan-Nigerian who loved his country beyond doubt and worked towards its development. .
“Distinguished Senator Kuta was a brother, friend and a paragon of integrity, principle, courage, and competence. His death truly hit where it hurts most and I am pained that he did not live to see the Nigeria of our collective dream, which he worked so hard for, fully emerge from the challenges of the moment,” Mr. Ekweremadu said. “His death has indeed bored in the heart of the Senate a hole that will be very hard to fill up. He will forever be remembered for his conviviality, robust and insightful contributions on the floor of the Senate, and total commitment to the overall institutional success of the National Assembly.”
He empathised with the family of the late Mr. Kuta as well as the government and the people of Niger state.
Mr. Kuta was born on April 16, 1949. He assumed office on May 29, 2007 and was a member of the ruling party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Mr. Kuta was a minority whip in 1983 when he was elected into the Niger State House of Assembly. In 1993, he was appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business in the Federal House of Representatives.
Mr. Kuta won the 2007 PDP primary election for Niger East, defeating his brother, Ibrahim Kuta, and won the senatorial election in April 2007.
