Obasanjo Establishes Foundation to Fight Health Challenges

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Mr. Obasanjo said the foundation will promote girl child education.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said on Monday in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, that he had established a Foundation to fight some health challenges in Nigeria and Africa.
Mr. Obasanjo said that the Foundation was established to address non-communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cancer, sickle cell and malnutrition in Africa.
The pilot project of the Foundation was inaugurated by Mr. Obasanjo on Monday at a Primary School in Kudai, Dutse.
He said the Foundation would also promote girl child education in Nigeria.
He said girl child education is paramount to the foundation because of the role of women in the society.
The former president said that the Foundation would give special attention to youth unemployment, saying unemployment is a problem across Africa.
“Today, about 60 per cent of our youth are unemployed; these people are either wholly unemployed or partially employed.
“If we do not pay attention to this problem, we are all sitting on a keg of gun powder,” he said.
