Three arrested at Biriwa with 25 bags of Indian hemp

The Mfantsiman District Police,  have  arrested three men at Biriwa in the Central Region for possessing  25 compressed  maxi bags,  suspected to be Indian hemp valued at two million Ghana Cedis.

They are Kodwo Acquah 42, his nephew, Kweku Acquah 26,  and Kwame Emmanuel 29.

The Mfantsiman District Police Commander, DSP David Ashong who made this known to the media on Sunday said he gathered intelligence on Friday, May 23 at about 14:00hrs that three men at Biriwa were planning to transport the bags of Indian hemp to Cote DIvoire via boat.

 He said he and his men upon searching the house in  which the suspects were hiding, found the 25 bags of   suspected Indian hemp and arrested them.

DSP Ashong said the suspects offered the police GH10, 000 bribe in exchange of their freedom, but the police rejected the offer and took them to the station together with the bags.

He said upon interrogation at the police station, the suspects admitted ownership of the bags, but declined to reveal the source of their supply, adding that investigations were on-going.

He urged the public to volunteer information to the police on drug peddling, armed robbery and other criminal activities.
