Police Debunks Rumour of IGP Been Sent on Terminal Leave

Mohammed Abubakar, IGP of police
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, is still in office, the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba has said.
Debunking the rumour that the police chief has been sent on a terminal leave by President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Mba said that his boss was still on duty.
“I don’t know where you people got it from; as I speak to you the IGP is on duty. If you guys have asked him to go, I don’t know where you got the power to do that,” Mr. Mba said.
There was a report Thursday morning that a statement emanating from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, stated that Mr. Abubakar has been relieved of his duty as police chief.
The report said he would be replaced by Suleiman Fakai, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Finance and Administration who will stand until a replacement for Mr. Abubakar is announced.
That report has now been debunked by the police spokesperson.
“He (Mr. Abubakar) is on duty; he was on an official trip to Ghana yesterday; came back and today, he’s at the National Assembly as I speak to you on duty,” Mr. Mba said.
