Dr Kwesi Botchwey,
a former Finance Minister, has launched the book “Visions of Ghana” and gave
the thumbs up for a colourful publication that has virtually performed a
corrective surgical operation on Ghana.
The book, authored by Prof Kwame
Addo, a development architect, decodes development and dissects Ghana in
totality in terms of economics, politics, tourism, natural resources, education
and many more backed by pictures and maps.
The launch at the National
Theatre drew people from all strata of the society including academicians,
politicians, diplomats, the business community and old students of Mfantsipim
School, the author’s alma mater.
Also in attendance were people in
the arts to support their colleague who is also involved in a variety of creative
activities ranging from book publications, music productions, auto styling and
art exhibitions around the world.
Mr K.B. Asante, a retired
diplomat, and Mad Samia Nkrumah, the Chairperson of the Convention People’s
Party (CPP) were there and saw in the book the economic vision of late
President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
Dr Botchwey said Ghana had both
the natural and human resources to lift itself out of the economic doldrums and
“Visions of Ghana” could serve as a guide.
“This book is a pictorial
narrative, a biography of our country and has plans,” said Dr Botchwey and
auctioned a copy for 3,000 Ghana cedis.
Mr Asante, who reviewed the book,
walked down memory lane and took the audience back to the First Republic.
“We are poor in the midst of
plenty,” he said and added that late President Nkrumah’s development plans are
still valid.
The Old Man said in his review of
the book: “The illustrations and pictures in the book are superb and
instructive. Visions of Ghana should be
compulsive and pleasant reading at high schools and higher education
institutions and by planners in the various departments of state.”
The daughter of the late First
President was emotional as she spoke about the visions of his father, his
development agenda for the country and said those plans as contained in the
book are as valid today as they were before his overthrow.
Samia said “Visions of Ghana” is
unique and its content is such that even those who cannot read and write will
find it useful, adding “there is something in it for everybody.”
Prof Addo has been a Professor of
Architecture, Environmental Design, Graphic Design and Industrial Design in
South America and offers Graduate and Continuing Education courses at the
Javeriana University, National University and the Universidad Del Valle, Cali,
Columbia.
