The Nigerian Army said on Friday in Abuja
that its 2014 Nigerian Army Day Celebration, NADACEL, would be marked
with low key celebrations.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Olajide Laleye, a Brigadier-General.
“As most of you are all aware, the Army
annually celebrates the Nigerian Army Day Celebration, NADECEL, with
pomp and pageantry. However, this year’s celebration will be on a very
low key in respect and deference to the challenges being faced by law
abiding citizens and members of the military, particularly in the North
East and Nigeria in general,” Mr. Laleye said.
The statement said that part of the event
would feature a Special Juma’at Prayer on July 4 and an
Interdenominational Church Service on July 6.
The Nigerian Army was established in 1863 with 18 northern Nigerians.
However, the name Nigerian Army was first used 100 years later when Nigeria became a republic in 1963.
NADCEL is an annual event during which the
army headquarters and formations across the country celebrate their
achievements, conduct drills and equipment display.
The Army also executes community development projects during the occasion to enhance civil-military relationship.
